The Hill Simulator. One of the best parts of our job, is that we have the good fortune of being able to test and play with some of the coolest products on the market. You would think having to pick one product as the stand out would be a difficult task, but this year, though there were some amazing innovation available, the best (as far as we’re concerned) is a little known product called The Hill Simulator.
The Hill Simulator does just that, simulates hill’s while you are on your Computrainer or your regular trtainer. Though it may sound simple, it adds a level of realism to your trainer workout that will leave your legs aching and a lake of sweat on the floor below.
The shiny little box about the size of a case of beer doesn’t look like much at first glance, but once you mount your front wheel onto the hill simulator and begin to pedal, you know that your trainer workout has changed forever, as the front wheel literally rises and lowers based on the grade changes that are happening on the Computrainer course.
In a traditional trainer workout, you can simulate the resistance of an 8 degree climb or a quick decline, by adding or releasing pressure on your back tire, the Hill Simulator takes that to the next level with it’s quiet, but strong lifting power (300 pound load) and raises your front wheel up to 10 degrees or as low as 8 on a decent.
It kicked our butt, it kicked Jessi Stendland butt (watching her sweat was a bonus to our day, click here to see the video ), it kicked the butt of everyone we had test it, leaving them giddy with endorphins, happy and eager to try it again. So besides the load you have been working against on your trainer, now new elements come into play like proper body positioning while you are on your trainer, we found that besides kicking our butts we had to concentrate on our form more while on the Hill Simulator, you can’t just “zone out and pedal,” it makes you maximize every mile of your indoor ride. Not to mention it’s fun. Shop owners are using The Hill Simulator as a tool to insure proper bike fit, pros and age groupers are using it to bring their trainer workout to another level, it’s hard to improve on what the Computrainer has done, but the minds behind The Hill Simulator have taken a good idea and have made it great. The set up on the Hill Simulator is fairly quick, you can be up and riding in about 10 minutes. Though it works best with a Computrainer, you can get a great workout with the manual button attachment and a regular trainer. One shop owner stated, he can easily attach the front of his bike to his garage door and workout, but really can you fit your garage door into your basement or in front of the TV for 5-6 hours. Congratulations to Jim Gebhardt the inventor of the Hill Simulator, we are thrilled to say that The Hill Simulator is the breakout product of the year, for design, function and something that truly adds to the progression of an athletes goals, The Hill Simulator can’t be beat, and after a few weeks on the Hill Simulator, neither will you. |
